Copper
Baroda/Bhavnagar, Local Copper Coinage of the Gulf of Khambhat (Cambay) region, paisa of Anand Rao Gaikwad, Baroda Mint, countermarked 'GB' in elliptical punch, 9.01g.
Very Fine, Rare.
There are various explanations forwarded for the meaning of 'GB', seen on this copper coin, which is essentially a validation mark applied as these coins circulated along the Gulf of Cambay. One possibility is that it stands for 'Gogho Bunder', and the coin was counterstamped at the port of Gogho which belonged to the Thakor of Bhavnagar.
