Whether these coins were struck by authority of the B.E.I.C. or the Nawab of Arkat is still subject to controversy. Pridmore (Spink Numismatic Circular #4/1976, pp. 138-140) describes these issues and argue that these coins were struck by the Nawab. This issue was intended for the trade with the Malabar Coast of India.
