Nawanagar, Copper Dhinglo, AH 969, copying the designs of Shams al-Din Muzaffar Shah III, Sultan of Gujarat with an additional inscription Shri A Sa in Nagari below the name of the Sultan on obverse.
Very Fine+, Very Rare.
The meaning of the Devanagari legend is uncertain; it perhaps refers to Ajoji, the son of Jam Sataji, who was killed at the battle of Bhuchar Mori fighting Akbar's Mughal army. A Silver Kori of the same type was sold earlier in our Auction 7, lot 282, for 90,000 rupees. This is the first time a copper coin of this type is offered for auction.
