Sikh Empire, Silver ½ Rupee, 'Gobindshahi' couplet, Amritsar Mint, VS1901, with a 'peacock' symbol on obverse in addition to the usual 'leaf' symbol on reverse, unlisted in Herrli, 4.75g.
Very Fine, Very Rare.
This type was published for the first time in the JONS 219 (Spring 2014), along with a piece dated VS 1902, by G.S. Gujral writing about the “Morashahi rupees of VS1861-1863” and the appearance of the peacock as a symbol. A similar coin, also somewhat underweight for the denomination, was offered by 'Stephen Album Rare Coins', Auction 20, lot no. 1535.
