About Extremely Fine, Extremely Rare.
The coins dated 1219 have an oblique milling, suggesting the blanks were rolled through a milling machine, before they were struck. Henderson has commented on the milling evident on other coins of Tipu Sultan as being a vestige of employment of French artisans. Obliquely milled coins British were current ontemporaneously with Tipu and it is possible that he employed French machinery to replicate it for his own coins. The experiment seems to be short-lived as coins of no other date have this feature.
