Samatata region, Gold Dinar with 'Chakra' legend (c. 700-800 AD), ECB SAM11.1 (plate specimen), 5.45g. Obv: King standing in Tribhanga position, holding a bow and arrow in each hands, with a 'Chakra' standard in the backdrop; Brahmi letter Sri in the top left field and legend Chakra below the hand holding the bow. Rev: Lakshmi seated cross-legged on lotus, holding a long-stemmed lotus bud in one hand and a small object in the other; few letters or objects to the left.
About Extremely Fine, Extremely Rare.
Bose and Nasir regard a 'very rare' type in ECB. The legend 'Chakra' was earlier thought to refer to a ruler; however, Bose and Nasir consider it to be a reference to the Buddhist 'Wheel of Law' rather than a title of any particular ruler.
