Samatata region, Anonymous Gold Dinar copying Gupta coin designs (c. 550-650 AD), ECB SAM3.4 var., 5.78g. Obv: Stylised representation of a nimbate 'archer' type king, holding bow in one hand and arrow in the other, with a zig-zag sashlike object hanging from his waist; a 'Shankha' standard in the backdrop, and a 'fire altar'-like object near its base. Rev: Stylised female figure standing holding a ball-like object in her hand; unread legend in the right field.
Extremely Fine, Rare.
Bose and Nasir have not listed a variety with the 'fire altar' towards the base of the standard for this type. This coin is struck in a well-centred manner with obverse and reverse depictions fully in flan, which is rare in the Samatata series.
