Samatata region, Gold Dinar imitating Kushan coin design (c. 400-500 AD), unlisted in ECB SAM, 7.47g. Obv: King wearing Kushan-style helmet and tunic, standing facing right offering a sacrifice at an altar, holding a trident; crude Bactrian legend around. Rev: Nimbate goddess, holding a sceptre, inspired by the Kushan 'Nana', facing left; Bactrian legend 'Ardokshsho' crudely spelled, in the right field and a Tamgha-like symbol to the left.
Very Fine+, Very Rare.
Bose and Nasir do not list any type where the king turns his head to the right in their book. Here the designs are apparently shown in mirrorimage to the normal orientation.
