Gupta Empire, Gold Dinar of Samudra Gupta (350-375 AD), 'King and Queen' type, unlisted in Altekar, 7.43g. Obv: Nimbate king, wearing a tunic and holding standard, standing facing a nimbate queen, offering her an object; Brahmi legend Kumaradevi to left and the words Chandra and Gupta on either side of the standard which the king holds. Rev: Nimbate goddess, seated frontally on a lion reclining with head to right. She holds a cornucopia in one hand and a noose in the other; Brahmi legend Lichchhawayah to right and Tamgha in the left field.
Very Fine+, Very Rare.
Altekar attributes this type to Chandra Gupta I and does not list a variety where the queen's name is without any honorific.
