Kadambas of Halasi/Hangal?, uninscribed Gold Gadyana (800-900 AD), pierced twice for use in jewellery, 4.35g. Obv: Elaborate symbol consisting of eight Sankha (conch) shells arranged in a lotus-like fashion. Rev: Four small punches of Sankha symbol.
Very Fine, Very Scarce.
The coin is tentatively attributed to the Kadambason basis of the prominence given to the Sankha symbol. Later coins of the Kadambas of Hangal also show this symbol prominently.
