Akbar (1556-1605 AD), Silver Rupee, Berar Mint, Khurdad 4x, with a 'lion raising front paw' symbol below the mint-name, 11.40g.
Extremely Fine, Very Rare.
Rupees with 'Berar' mint-name were probably struck from more than one locations in the province of Berar. They carry different symbols below the mint-name: a star, a bird and the name 'Ram' have been noted. A coin with 'lion' symbol exists in the British Museum. The symbol bears close resemblance to decorative motifs seen on gateways of many forts in the Deccan.
