Nayakas of Madurai, Copper Cash of Vishwanatha Nayaka (multiple reigns 1529 - 1563 AD), 3.20g. Obv: Krishna seated in Rajalila-asana, surrounded by Prabha (aura). Rev: Legend in crude Nagari Sri Vi / S(w)a… in three lines; middle letter flanked by sun and moon symbols.
Very Fine, Very Rare.
The coin makes a visual reference to Krishnadeva Raya, the imperial master of the Nayakas so it was probably struck during the first tenure of Vishwanatha as the Nayaka of Madurai.
