Akbar (1556-1605 AD), Silver Rupee, Mintless and dateless, 11.26g, with Allahu Akbar on obverse and Jalla Jalalahu on reverse, variety with 'Jim' of 'Jalla' extended into a long stroke.
Very Fine, Very Rare.
The type was introduced by Akbar soon after AH 990, to herald the 'timeless' Islamic Millenium, where he would be the 'Khalifah' or supreme leader. On a practical level, it helped counter the discounting of older coins by shroffs who relied on the date mentioned on the coin to apply it.
