Yadavas of Devagiri, Bhillama V (1185-1195 AD), Gold punch-marked Asu or 'Padma Tanka', early type, not in MSCI-I, 3.76g. Obv: Nine punches: 4 x stylised lion to right, 2 x Kannada letter 'Shri', 1 x Sankha shell with dotted outline, 1 x lotus in centre and 1 x Nagari legend Bhillama Deva.
Very Fine, Rare.
The early type of Bhillama V's gold coins derives directly from the Chalukya precursors with the 'lion' punches still employed. On later type (see below), the number of punches is reduced from nine to five.
