Copper
Gwalior, Jayaji Rao Sindhia (1843-1886 AD), Copper Takka, Jhansi Mint, in the name of Shah Alam II, ND, with Farsi initial 'Ji' added above symbol on reverse, 15.15g.
Very Fine+, Very Rare.
The town and fortress of Jhansi was ceded to the Sindhias after the Revolt of 1857-1859 AD, until 1886 when the British took it once again under their control. The mint was operated during this time following designs of Maratha issues previously struck there. This copper coin follows the designs of the 'Balashahi' paisas/takkas struck at mints such as Jalaun and Srinagar, and constituted the principle copper currency of Bundelkhand.
