Gwalior, Jayaji Rao Sindhia (1843-1886 AD), Silver ¼ Rupee, Jhansi Mint, 2.73g, in the name of Shah Alam II, AH 129(9), with Farsi letter 'Ji' on the reverse.
Very Fine, Very Rare.
The town and fort of Jhansi was administered by the Sindhias following the Revolt of 1857-59 and the death of Queen Laxmibai. It was
ceded back to the British in 1886. The mint was kept operational and the issues carried the added symbol of the Sindhia's initial during this
period. KM lists a 1/8th rupee, but all fractions should be considered extremely rare.
