Maratha ‘Swarajya’, Copper 2/3rdSajgani / ‘Shivarai’ Paisa, in the name of Chhatrapati Shivaji (1674-1680 AD), so-called ‘lifetime issue’ with full dotted borders on either side, M&W T1, 7.88g. Obv: Nagari legend in three lines Shri Raja Shiva. Rev: Nagari legend in two lines Chhatra Pati.
Very Fine+, Very Rare.
The weight of the coin suggests it was struck as a 2/3rd unit of a 12 gm coin. This denomination is in accordance with the pre-Shivaji coinage in the Deccan, which was divided into fractions of three.
