Sultans of Delhi, Turk dynasty, Shams al-Din Kayumarth (1290 AD), Silver Tanka, Hazrat Delhi Mint, AH 689 (mint and date fully visible), G&G D190, 10.90g. Obv: In double rectangle, al-Sultan al-'Azam Shams al-Dunyawa al-Din Abu al- Muzaffar Kayumarth al-Sultan. Rev: In circle al-Imam al-Musta'asim Amir al-Momineen, mint date and details in margin.
Very Fine+, well centrally struck Extremely Rare.
Kayumarth was a three-year old son of the last Turk Sultan Mu'izz ud-Din Kaiqubad and was briefly installed on the throne by his nobles in response to a challenge by Jalal al-Din Khalji, an Afghan noble. Jalal al-Din proved successful in his bid to power and became the Sultan, thus ending the Turk dynasty at Delhi. Kayumarth's coins are extremely rare.
