Gupta Empire, Chandra Gupta II (375-415 AD), Gold Dinar, 'Archer' type, Altekar Class II, var. L, 7.66g. Obv: Nimbate and bare-bodied king, standing in Tribhanga pose, holding a strung bow in one hand and an arrow in the other, with Garuda standard in the background. He turns to left but looks to right and the bow is accordingly turned inwards towards him; Brahmi legend Deva Shri Maharajadhiraja Shri Cha… to the right along the margin. Rev: Nimbate goddess Lakshmi seated on a lotus, with a lotus in one hand, resting on raised knee, and a noose in the other; Brahmi legend Shri Vikramah to the right and Tamgha to left.
About Extremely Fine, Extremely Rare.
This is a very rare variation in the 'Archer' type of which Altekar illustrates only the obverse.
