The coins of Sashti were first published by Pukhraj Surana in 'Numismatic Digest' 1980. Maheshwari & Wiggins subsequently discussed them in their monograph. They list a 1/2 Paisa as T1 but this is the first time a ¼ Paisa is brought to notice. The attribution of the coin to Sashti is beyond doubt by the reverse legend, which is most likely a date in the Rajyabhisheka Era instituted by Shivaji in 1674AD. The province was lost to the British in 1774 as a result of the first Anglo-Maratha war, so the coins are struck a few years before the British conquest. The mint was most probably located at Kalwa, which is now a suburban railway station just beyond Thane.
