Pandyas of Madurai, Maravarman Sundara Pandya I (1216-1238 AD), Copper Kasu, 2.28g. (Type not listed in Mitchiner: Tamilnadu-Kerala volume). Obv: A boar to right on a pedestal with bold Sun and crescent-moon above. Rev: Tamil legend Sundara above the dynastic emblem of 'crozier between two fish'.
Very Fine, Rare.
The adoption of two dynastic images on this coin - the boar of the Eastern Chalukyas and the Fishes of the Pandyas suggests the ruler was claiming legitimacy from both these houses even though the Eastern Chalukya lineage had ended almost a century before.
