Hunnic Coinage, Copper unit of Kashmir series, temp. Toramana and Mihirakula (c. 460-520 AD), (Unlisted in MAC and other standard reference works on the subject), 6.79g. Obv: A standing figure with outstretched arm holding an object (a torque?). Rev: A (male?) deity standing, facing with arms flexed at elbows and held upright; traces of Brahmi letters…rata… to the right.
Very Fine, Very Rare.
This is a new and unpublished type for the series of Hunnic coins of Kashmir, related to the coins in the name of Mihiragula, which have a Shri / Ardochsho on the reverse. It is counterstruck on an earlier issue with a 'bull' obverse, traces of which are visible to the left of the 'deity with uplifted arms' motif on the reverse.
