Obv: King wearing tunic and trousers, standing holding a standard and offering sacrifice at an altar; traces of Bactrian Greek letters around. Rev: The Buddha, nimbate and wearing a monk's robes, standing facing, making a gesture of reassurance with one hand and holding the folds of the robe by the other; a Tamgha to the left and Bactrian legend …mano Boudo around .

Kanishka's coins depicting the Buddha are one of the earliest human depictions of him. Here he is shown as a 'Muni' or 'seer' of the Shakya clan, as evident by the title 'Sakamano' which is the Bactrian form of the Sanskrit word Shakyamuni.
