Satavahanas, Arsenical Copper coin of Naganika and Siri Satakani (100-50 BC), MCSI vol. 1, no. 141, 4.74g. Obv: Brahmi legend Na(gani)kaya in a central tablet; traces of (Siri) Satakani(sa) around. Rev: 'Ujjain' symbol with Swastikas in each orb and Nandipadas in each quadrant, within a dotted rectangular border.
Dent in center otherwise Very Fine, Very Rare.
Naganika was the first indigenous Queen to have struck coins in her name, jointly with her husband Siri Satakani. Famous for the dedicatory inscription in the Satavahana family temple at Naneghat, she is known to have performed several Vedic sacrifices, including two Ashwamedhas. Her coins are usually in the range of 10-15g. So this appears to be half unit, which is previously unpublished.
