Lot No.85
AUC18
Ancient India
Auction Date: 16-08-2014
Bronze
Bronze Seal of Krishna (500-600 AD), with motif of seated Nandi and inscription in Vakataka style angular Brahmi that reads Krishna, 15.22g.
Very Fine+, Extremely Rare.
The motif of seated Nandi and the name 'Krishna' are reminiscent of the coins of Kalachuri ruler Krishnaraja of Mahishmati in Central India. It is possible that this is a Kalachuri seal, employed in regions to the South and East of Mahishmati (Maheshwar) where the style of angular Brahmi was in vogue.
