Very Fine, Extremely Rare.

This coin was published by Nicholas Rhodes in JONS207 (2011). It is unusual in having neither the name of a ruler or a Hijri date. After Aurangzeb only two Mughal rulers reigned for 12 or more years, Muhammad Shah and Shah 'Alam II. No other Copper coins are known from Bengal for the reign of Muhammad Shah; nonetheless his reign has to be a possible candidate. On the other hand, if the coin were struck during the reign of Shah 'Alam II, then the coin would have to be an otherwise unknown and unrecorded issue of the Bengal Presidency of the EIC. Either way, the coin remains enigmatic and very rare.
