Mughals
Auction Date: 21-12-2013
Gold
Shah Jahan (1628-1658 AD), Gold ¼ Mohur, Burhanpur Mint (not visible on the coin), AH (10)63, 2.75g. Obv: Shahjahan Badshah Ghazi seen in parts in dotted square border, his title Sahib Qiran Thani partly visible outside. Rev: Kalima in dotted square border, names of Caliphs and their titles in outer margins; AH date below 'L' of 'Rasool' in the Kalima.
Extremely Fine, Very Rare.
Fractional Gold issues of Shah Jahan are Extremely Rare. The 'legends in dotted square border' was employed for Akbarabad and Burhanpur mints but the placement of the AH date close to the Kalima inside the border leaves no doubt that this coin was struck at Burhanpur.
