Obv: within rectangle, Arabic legend Islam Shah al-Sultan Sher Shah Khallada Allah Mulkahu; Devanagari legend Sri Isalama Sahi below. Rev: Kalima within a rectangle, AH date at its end; names and titles of the Caliphs in outer margin.
Very Fine +, Extremely Rare.
Although this coin does not show a mint, the mintmarks on obverse – a star and a 'nine-compartment grid' – are exactly those seen on a rare issue of Patna Mint (G&G D965A). The coin is also stylistically very similar to the Patna rupee illustrated in G&G. It is therefore likely it was struck at Patna.
