Silver bilingual dirham of Mahmud Ghaznavi (998-1030 AD), Mahmudpur (Lahore) mint, AH 418/9 (1027-1029), G&G GZ5, 2.87g. Obv: legend in Arabic inscribed in Kufic script - Shahada followed by Yamin al-Daula wa Amin Mahmud al -Milla, to left al-qadir, above billah; AH date in words and mint-name in margin. Rev: legend in Sanskrit inscribed in Sharada script - Avyaktameka Muhammada Avatara Nripati Mahamuda ("the Invisible is One, Muhammad is the manifestation, Mahmud the king"); in the margins - Ayam Tankam Mahmudepure Ghatita Tajikiyer Samvati (“This coin was made in Mahmudpur in the Arab year”) followed by AH date in number.
