A hoard of these disks were found in May 2000 at Mandi in Muzaffarnagar district, Western Uttar Pradesh, attributed to the Indus Valley Civilization. The hoard was contained in two bronze containers and included many varieties of spacer beads, hollow terminal beads, single and double bell-shaped beads, and thin circular disks, similar to this one. The technique and method of its manufacture are a testament to the skills and metallurgical knowledge of the Indus Valley Civilization and ranks among the earliest precious-metal components discovered in India and were used as a medium for exchange.
