Sultans of Delhi, Suris, silver ½ rupee of Sher Shah (1538-1545 AD), Agra mint (fully visible), AH 948, struck from special dies, Caliphs type 1, G&G D773 (listed as RR), 5.72g. Rev: In rectangular border, Arabic legend sultan sher shah khallada allah mulkahu, with AH date at bottom; other title al-sultan al-adil abu'l muzaffar around with mint-name zarb agra in bottom quadrant.
A beautiful specimen exhibiting bold, sharply rendered details and alluring eye appeal.
Extremely fine, Exceedingly rare.
Interestingly, the present specimen is the same coin illustrated in the Paul Stevens database.
Notably, only two other examples of this type were found in the sales archives to date, making this an exceptional opportunity for advanced collectors to fill a missing spot in their collection.
In comparison to the previous type, G&G D772 (Lot No.172), this type has no Nagari legend and bears shorter marginal legends, with only the names of the four Caliphs on the obverse, whereas the previous type includes the names of the four Caliphs along with their honorific titles.
